Hello, and welcome to my personal website. My name is Dr. Jacob A. Mauslein, and I am an Assistant Professor of Intelligence Studies at Mercyhurst University. Prior to Mercyhurst, I was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science at Oklahoma State University. During my time at OSU, I taught courses focused on international relations and conflict. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I was also the Associate Editor of Political Research Quarterly – one of the top-ranked generalist journals in Political Science – from 2014 to 2018.
I have several publications in leading peer-reviewed academic journals, including the Journal of Politics, Conflict Management and Peace Science, and Terrorism and Political Violence. My research highlights the geospatial aspects of international terrorism, such as local human and physical geographic characteristics that increase the prevalence of terrorist attacks. My research also highlights the political, interstate dynamics of cyber attacks and other forms of digital protest. My current research continues to build upon the geospatial aspects of terrorist targeting preferences, as well as the interstate factors that increase cyber attacks, cyber terrorism, and cyber espionage.
I received a B.A. in History from Washburn University (magna cum laude) in 2007, an M.A. in Political Science from Kansas State University in 2009, and a Ph.D. in Security Studies from Kansas State University in 2014.
